2nd Annual Conference Celebrates and Preserves Immigrant Stories While Promoting Understanding

Building on its mission to honor and uplift the South Florida immigrant experience, Barry University's Institute for Immigration Studies (IIS) announces its 2nd Annual Conference. This transformative two-day event, scheduled for April 9-10, 2025, brings together community leaders, scholars, and cultural innovators to promote education, preserve traditions, and provide opportunities for meaningful dialogue about immigration in Florida and beyond.

"We're creating a space where diverse voices can share their stories and contribute to the rich mosaic of South Florida's immigrant experience."

Conference Highlights:

  • Distinguished speakers including David Lawrence Jr. and renowned chef Juan Chipoco

  • Cultural celebration featuring the exhibition "The Whole World is Churning", curated by Rosie Gordon Wallace, founder of Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator

  • Evening concert "Miami Fusion" honoring Operation Pedro Pan Group

  • Expert panels on immigration law, healthcare, and social integration

  • Interactive workshops fostering community dialogue and understanding

The event will be held at Barry University's Miami Shores campus (11300 NE 2nd Avenue). Continental breakfast provided.
